PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Physical Activity & Sedentary Behavior

A physically active campus helps everyone to move more and sit less. We are working to find new ways to integrate movement into campus life to promote student wellbeing, reduce stress and support learning. Even small changes can make a difference. If you are passionate about expanding opportunities for physical activity on our campus, join our action group by contacting us here.

Active Workstation Project

Did you know the average university student sits for 8-10 hours a day? In 2016, we introduced a treadmill desk into the library as part of the campus wide initiative to reduce sedentary behaviour, and a bike desk in 2017. We shared our evaluation results with the campus (Assessing the Feasibility of Active Study Stations at UBC Okanagan).

The positive responses of active study station users was an important factor in establishing an active study area in the Commons building with six more active study stations.

We invite you to try out one of the active study stations.
