1,2,3…Food Fight!
Did you know that students are one of the most vulnerable populations in Canada for experiencing household food insecurity? What exactly is this issue faced by 40% of your UBC peers? Imagine not being able to afford food, skipping and compromising on the quality of your meals, and jeopardizing your overall well being because of a lack of nutrition. This is called being household food insecure and students all over the world are affected due to unique post secondary issues such as tuition, housing, and work opportunities. Student food security is also affected by a student’s food knowledge and skills known as food capacity. Food systems, the overall environment, and policies that affect your day to day lives, also impact student food security. Campus Health (and the World Health Organization) believes food is not a luxury or a privilege, food is a basic human right. We repeat: food is a basic human right! This year Campus Health is researching food security, and we need your help!
Join our research team as we uncover the experiences of food insecurity at UBCO and propose and implement solutions for our campus. To become a student co-researcher for the UBCO Food SInsecurity Project, email campushealth.ubco@ubc.ca, or drop by UNC 337 and ask for the VOICE team. Get ready for the best food fight of your life!
